How To Use HideThisEmail
We started this project after mistakingly posting a private email address on a business related forum. Within a matter of days
we started to get a trickle of spam emails - I am sure you have seen the type yourselves - lottery wins, pharmaceutical offers, money left
by departed relatives in foreign countries, emails from banks etc etc the list could go on. As well as the normal plain spam emails there
were phishing emails trying to elicit all kinds of financial information from us. Within three weeks this trickle of emails had grown
to about 15 emails per day and more and more annoying! Sure some of them were filtered out by the anti-spam software but we
still had to manually check in case anything had been filtered incorrectly.
So we decided to try and put something simple together to ensure that this doesn't happen again. Ok we know it's not going to
win any prizes for Technology Breakthough Of The Year but look at it this way - say we were receiving 15 x spam emails a day x 365 that's 5475 spam emails a year!
That's 5475 emails to just one account - not forgetting that the number of emails will continue to grow over time.
So if we can get just 1,000 people to use this system and they get a similar amount of spam emails then that will cut out
over 5,475000 - that's right well over 5 million spam emails will be stopped! As well as saving the user loads of time,
freeing up space it will also cut down on the amount sent through the internet which helps us all!
Did You Know??
- The total volume of spam is over 100 billion emails per day as of April 2008.
- Spam averages 94% of all e-mails sent.
- About 80% of all spam is sent by fewer than 200 spammers.
- Scripts harvest(collect) email adresses from chatrooms, websites, forums, social networking sites.
- Collected email addresses are sold on to other spammers & scammers.
- Microsoft founder Bill Gates receives four million e-mails per year, most of them spam.
- A 2004 survey estimated that lost productivity costs Internet users in the US $21.58 billion annually.
How To Use It?
Very simply wherever you want to write your email address on a publically accessible webpage then stop and
instead copy the image link we will give you. It will show your email address as an image allowing your friends
to email you but stop the spammers harvesting it as it isn't text.
Here is an example of what the image looks like:

Alternatively if you want something a little flashier:
